Seattle ARCHICAD User Group — September 8th, 2016

We’re heading back to downtown Seattle for our September ARCHICAD user group. We’ve got some special guests AND we’re talking more about ARCHICAD 20, so we decided we needed the bigger space that Makers has to offer. Also meeting downtown means we have more options for after-party locations. Or is that after-user group locations? That sounds less exciting. Whatever the nomenclature, downtown has a lot of bars and restaurants for us to continue the ARCHICAD discussions in once we wrap up at Makers. Here are the details…

Date:

Thursday September 8th, 2016
6:00 PM — 8:00 PM

Location:

MAKERS
92 Lenora St
Seattle, WA 98121

Host:

John Magnan, GRAPHISOFT North America West Region Sales Director

Special Guests:

Patrick Bird, P.E./S.E., Principal Riverstone Structural Concepts
David Fulton, Senior Associate Riverstone Structural Concepts

Topics:

We have a jam-packed user group scheduled for September. Patrick Bird and David Fulton of Riverstone Structural Concepts will be coming in from Boise, Idaho to talk about their work. Riverstone Structural Concepts is a structural engineering firm that uses ARCHICAD on projects of all scales. We will also hear from at least one local ARCHICAD user that has worked directly with them on a BIM Server project (which is code for I’ve worked with them, but I’m hoping a few other users that I know who have teamed up with Riverstone will be in attendance as well and share their experiences).

After the presentation and discussion with Riverstone, we will spend the second half of the user group looking more closely at ARCHICAD 20. Now that many of us have been using it for a few months, there is so much to share and explore. I will have two or three projects currently under development in ARCHICAD 20 that I can show everyone. I’m sure we will spend a LOT of time talking about the awesomeness that is Graphic Overrides and visual Favorites.

If there’s a specific topic you’d like to discuss, or a project you’d like to share, e-mail me.

Food and refreshments will be served.

ARCHICAD job hunters!

If you are in the Seattle area and need work, e-mail me. There are plenty of people who want to talk to you. If you want to move to Seattle and use ARCHICAD, e-mail me as well-especially if you like the freelancer lifestyle. If you are an ARCHICAD firm in need of help, definitely e-mail me. I’ll be honest though, the answer to our need for ARCHICAD help in Seattle (and so many other places) is training new users. The ARCHICAD community is larger now than it has ever been. And it needs to be larger. Not just because a bigger community is more sustainable, but because there’s more work than we can all handle. I don’t know of any firm that uses ARCHICAD that considers themselves overstaffed. It’s time to hire new people and train them on ARCHICAD from the ground up. And as I’ve been saying for months now, if there are enough new users in Seattle that need training, we’ll organize some sort of group event.
