What have you Unlearned Today?
We all have bad habits in ArchiCAD. Some of this is from how we were taught and some from the version we learned on. As the program evolves, we need to reevaluate how we work. Do we still need to hold down shift? Is it time to get used to the tracker? Are we still hanging on to old key commands from v8.1? Some are worth keeping. I want to be able to press ‘L’ and get polyline. That seems legit. But just as often, these habits are wasting our time and holding us back. A lot of improvements in efficacy can come from just getting rid of our bad habits.
Breaking these habits is hard and it sucks. I’m suffering through breaking an old habit with typing text right now. For millennia I have put two spaces between the end of a sentence and the beginning of the next. But my wife, who lists editor among her many qualifications and accomplishments, has pointed out that the double space between sentences is (and probably never was) necessary. It is so hard to not hit the space bar twice after I finish a sentence. One hit. Not two. The muscle memory in my hands is very, very hard to overcome. But the Endless Path of Improvement beckons.

I do the double hit as well but have noticed on the iPhone… When I do, it automatically adds the period and one space. BUT I still add one more space because I think it looks better. There!

Dave, I can’t decide between two snarky remarks, so you have a choice:
A) Are you sure you’re not secretly a licensed architect?
B) I think we can still be friends even though you’re doing it wrong.
