Operators
I keep the majority of my operators on a hidden layer called Operators. However it’s a pain to turn on the layer when I need it on. In times past I’d either go to the layers, select operator, turn it on, or I’d go to an “all on” layer combination, or a special layer combination that was a “3D + operators,” or I’d select a slab, change it to the operator layer, then start drawing, click yes, turn on hidden layer… all of these are slow and annoying. The last one, though, led me to a great solution. Favorites. One of my saved favorites is a generic slab on the operator layer. So now to turn on the operators, I key command the slab tool (u), key command the favorites open (shift + ~), click on the operator favorite and start drawing. I have also added a separate 2D favorite on the operator layer as well (polyline) for when I need to turn on operators in sections/elevations/interior elevations. I could cut out one step if I left the favorites open, but I hate having the favorites open when I’m not using it; I find it distracting when it changes with each tool, which is the way I want it when it is open. This is one of those tricks that seem useless until you try it a few times.

I would really like to say “what’s an operator” but I think I know…
and since you are taking the time how to gain access to them on short notice might it be another of those tools that would be worth learning more about…..hmm?

Bill, that’s a great idea. I’ve added that to our agenda for our next meeting. The current project I’m working on -a residence in Michigan- uses more operators and Solid Element Operations than I typically use, so it’ll be a good file for show and tell. In the mean time, if you aren’t that familiar with operators and SEO, this article on the ArchiCAD wiki is worth a read.
