Discussion Topic: BIM in the Clouds
Cloud computing is the new computing platform shift.  The cloud is really just a metaphor for the Internet, a style of computing in which users access technology-enabled services from the Internet without the knowledge of, or control over the technology infrastructure that supports these services.  It is a way of remotely accessing information and applications that are hosted at a separate IT facility (the cloud) via a secure Internet connection.

From a business perspective, the cloud also introduces opportunities for different consumption models known as SaaS – Software as a Service. IT costs can be better managed with SaaS models since the traditional capital expenditure (CapEx) model common in data centers today can transferred to an operational expenditure (OpEx) model.

In this BBC session we will learn about the collaborative nature of the cloud, and the opportunities to improve cooperation between owners, designers, architects, contractors, and quality control personnel. We’ll discuss how the cloud enables IPD (integrated project delivery)and review practical examples of cloud computing specific to AEC. We will also explore Cloud 2.0, a new service from Advance2000 provides a high performance solution for graphics work stations.

Presenters:
Chris France, President, Advance 2000
Mike Hnastchenko, Target
