I Quit my job this week. What have you been up to?
Seriously. After 4 1/2 years at SALA Architects, I’ve left to pursue other adventures.
I left my very stable job. A job where my coworkers appreciated what I provided for the firm and would love for me to stay there forever. During the worse economic meltdown in almost a century. With a wife in school full-time. And two young daughters. Happy Birthday Madeleine. You’re 3 tomorrow! And only a vague idea of what comes next.
What Comes Next? More… of everything.
So I’m going to be a little light on the details about what comes next (for now). There are a lot of things cooking and I want to get them started first before revealing them. Expect lots of big news and announcements on the blog, in addition to the usual onslaught of engaging, fun, and useful ArchiCAD tips, tricks, and thoughts. I like to share, so I’m sure I’ll be posting a lot about everything that’s developing, once it’s shareable. Expect something Monday.
Here’s what I will say. I’m now going full-time with Shoegnome. There will be more videos, more posts on this site and others, more magazine articles, more webinars, more lectures, more teaching in person and via Skype, more collaboration with other ArchiCAD gurus, more collaboration with other architects and design firms from all around the world. Probably some architecture projects done directly through Shoegnome. More. More. More. AND finally a new look for the site.
I’m excited. And nervous. And a little terrified. Okay not that terrified.
And now for a promise:
Carolyn, Madeleine, and Phaedra. This next chapter in my career is for you three. May it make me a happier, more loving, and better father and husband. I think we’re all about to have some great adventures. I promise you all that much.
Paul Buum, AIA
All my best Jared, to you and your family. Thanks for teaching me ArchiCAD and renewing my love of drawing.

Thanks Paul. It’s been a pleasure. And remember, I’m not done teaching you!!! Now I really have to finish that post I have half written about how you’re going to be better than everyone at ArchiCAD. Seriously.

Hello Jared,
I am an ardent follower of your blog and i must confess it has been one of the best things to have happened to my fledgling design career. Thanks. Am glad u moving to the next level and for the bold step u’ve taken. In life u must ‘let go to get more’. I wish u the best in your imminent adventure .
Jared Banks
@ Chris, Thank you so much for that wonderful comment. So glad I’ve been such an influence. It means a lot to hear that and helping in that way is exactly why I started the blog in the first place.

Hi Jared,
Those were the same emotions that I have when I left my stable job 2 years back to start on my own, and so far never looked back its the best thing that happened to me in my life . I wish you all great success in your future endeavors.
Srinivas.
Jared Banks
Srinivas, Thanks. It’s great to hear the encouragement and the success from others who have done the same thing!

We grow a tiny bit every day, but on the 1st of March of 2012 “someone” has grown immensely…
Leading by example in an industry where sometimes we get lost!
Cheers Jared… and best of luck on the new adventure!
Jared Banks
@joao Thanks so much!

Being a father with three young boys and a working mother, I can only support that you explicitly shouted out your support for your family. Because despite all working stress and opportunities, being able to rely on your own loving family should never be underestimated.
Good luck with your new endeavours.
Jared Banks
Agreed! I have been able to do what I’ve done this past year because of the support of my wife and kids.
