Simple Addon – seriously all of them for $19.95?
I will no longer listen to anyone bitch about how much it sucks that in ArchiCAD we can’t copy 3D elements in Sections or Elevations. I’m sure one day Graphisoft will give us this feature, though it’s not high on my personal list of needs or wants. Perhaps it’s because I’m used to not having it. Or that I’m working more and more in 3D, so it’s less necessary. Or (I’m willing to concede) it’s because I don’t know what I’m missing. That’s possible. Actually that’s PROBABLE. Well until the version of ArchiCAD with this function is released, just go give Miklós Groszeibl at Simple Addon $20 and quit complaining. Actually not even $20. Just $19.95. And you get NINE other add-ons as well. And who doesn’t want Zone Names to show up in Sections and to also be able to auto dimension Sections and Elevations (just to name two more of the add-ons).
Oh and there’s more.
Before you spend any money, you can download all TEN add-ons and try them out first.
What are you waiting for?
Go see how Copying 3D elements in Section and Elevation will revolutionize your use of ArchiCAD. Did I mention it’s crazy cheap (not even $2/Add-On)?
You might be thinking, hasn’t Jared told us this before? I have. But many of the issues Simple Add-Ons resolves were raised recently in various conversations and I thought it bears repeating. Plus, I’m a huge fan of supporting and spreading the word of all those GDL gurus out there giving us the tools to making our lives easier (both the ones who work for Graphisoft and the guys just doing it for the love of our community).

Sounds good, Jared.
Being addons rather than objects, does one need to buy them again after each upgrade of AC?
Jared Banks
I don’t know. That’s a good question. I’ll e-mail Miklós and ask.
Jared Banks
Okay, got some more info about Simple Add-Ons and new versions of ArchiCAD. Here’s what Miklós had to say:
The older versions of the add-ons won’t work with newer versions of ArchiCAD. We have to rewrite and optimize the code for each version.
For example AC 16 has the new Morph element. The section copy add-on has a new capability to handle morphs. Because of these you need to download and purchase the key for the new versions. These purchases supports our work, new developments and run our site.
Me again: so yeah, you’d have to spend another $20 each time you upgrade to a newer version.

It may seem trivial, but I think the “travel distance” addon sounds like a handy tool. Travel distances are critical to commercial projects, and being able to adjust the documentation in one step would be great.
Jared Banks
Patrick, download the trials, find out, and report back. Anytime I’ve e-mailed Simple Add-Ons, they’ve gotten back to me really quick.
Vistasp Mehta
Thanks for finding out, Jared. Miklós makes a valid point and the amount is very, very reasonable. 🙂

Are there any problems with these add-ons causing glitches? I have had some “cheap” add-ons that crashed files before… does Simple Add-Ons have tech support?
some of these just sound too good to be legit for $20…

Jared, This sounds like a great utility. But as much as I appreciate the work of benevolent hackers, I think Graphisoft would do better to get out the checkbook and purchase add-ons such as this and Cadimage among others and integrate them into the core functionality of ArchiCAD. Afterall, that’s what Autodesk does. Or can AC even stay in game for the long haul?
Jared Banks
Ken, I agree. I’d love to see Graphisoft buy some of these add-ons and integrate them into the core functionality of ArchiCAD. That’d be great. Not just because we’d get more abilities, but it’d also encourage other developers to create awesome additions to ArchiCAD… knowing that the best might get bought up for ideally a nice lump of cash. Or that small developers might get subsumed by Graphisoft and end up with nice new jobs at HQ! 🙂

So these add-on are version specific and I will need to update to 16 to use them?
Jared Banks
While they are version specific, most of the add-ons have been around for awhile (though I don’t know how far back they go (I believe I learned about them during v14, maybe earlier). If you’re interested in them, I’d recommend e-mailing Miklós and asking if you can purchase the add-ons for an older version of ArchiCAD. I don’t know what he’d say, but it’s worth a shot.

When do you think we will see a version for AC21?
Jared Banks
I’m not sure. Have you reached out to them yet? I imagine they’ll do it fairly soon as they’ve continued to maintain them for each version since ARCHICAD 14.
