CLOG SCI-FI ready for Pre-Order (and guess who’s a contributor)

Analog+Digital+Organic

One of my goals this year was to write articles for places other than Shoegnome and BIM Engine (though I love writing for both those places, and you’ll start seeing new posts by me on the GSNA blog hopefully next week). I wanted to expand to both other places online and to print. I’ve had some success. And there are a few more in the works. Equally importantly I wanted to expand beyond my typical topics. My submission for CLOG SCI-FI definitely meets all those goals. Here’s an excerpt:

“Star Wars and Star Trek offer seductive potential futures. One appeals to our hardscrabble romantic side, the other to the comfort of clean linear technological progress. Star Wars is an analog universe. Steel and mechanical energy are paramount. Star Trek on the other hand is a digital future. Silicon and the flow of electrons underpin all the advances. These sci-fi universes are extrapolations of then-contemporary technologies mixed with asynchronous future-tech required by the plot. Neither approximates our impending reality.”

As you can tell from many of my posts this year, the connection between technology and architecture is moving towards obsession. My article for CLOG SCI-FI was the release valve which led to all those other posts (and many more to come). The image above-which I did for the article but wasn’t ultimately included in the issue-will probably be something you’ll see more of in the future too. You might have already noticed it on my Twitter Account.

Want to read my full article plus a ton of other great articles about the intersection of SCI-FI and architecture?

You can order CLOG SCI-FI here.

side note: if you can tell me what rock band that image pays homage to, I’ll buy you a beer the next time we’re in the same location.
