Symbol Line Type Creation and Symbol Line Types in Composites

This video is in support of this BIM Engine post I wrote. You should read that post to understand more about what’s going on. A few more notes:

At the end of the video I say “copy in 3D”. I meant “copy 3D elements in elevation and section”. Obviously. Sorry about that. The danger of soft language. But a verbal slip at the end of a seven minute video isn’t worth re-recording the whole thing. One take videos are my preference.

Also a bonus tip: when creating Symbol Line Types Hotspots can be copied as well. They will appear as dots. Which means if the line has a very thin line weight, those dots will be near invisible. For what it’s worth. Perhaps getting the line to be offset from where the ‘reference line’ of the line is (usually just the line) might have some weird utility in a Composite with Symbol Line Types in it.

Thanks Jared for another great video…just a quick question, is there any way to control the scale/size of the symbol used in the line so you can control the spacing of an ‘object’? I tried making a line of joists just for fun, and the 2x12s came out huge i.e. 8′ x 30′!! I’ve tried both paper space and model space, changed the dash length, etc. but no luck….any suggestions?

Got it…I set the scale to 1:1, copies and pasted into the line symbol window, then set the dash to the width of the top plate (2.5″) and the gap to 13.5″ (16″ – 2.5″) and it scales and spaces perfectly! Yeehaw! 🙂
