Introducing the Shoegnome Open Template for ArchiCAD 17
I’ve occasionally shared my template throughout the life of the blog, but never formally. At first I only had the template I developed for my old day job, and then my template was a mess. Right about the time I had my template (almost) updated, ArchiCAD 17 came out. The introduction of Building Materials caused me to stop development of my old template and I decided to start from scratch. It only took me about a year from the day I first laid eyes on ArchiCAD 17 to rebuild my template, but it’s finally in a place that I am happy with it. Oh and it took me a year because I was busy doing other things, not because it actually took that long. Though I learned so much about BIM and ArchiCAD 17 in that year that I’m glad I waited.

If you use ArchiCAD, or know someone who does, go ahead and download my Shoegnome Open Template for ArchiCAD 17. Here’s the link to the template, FAQ, and a lot of other information about why I’m doing this.

Sometime soon I’ll explain why a good ArchiCAD Template and caring about learning BIM is so critical to being a successful Architect in the fast approaching future. Nice to see someone openly sharing….thanks & way to go!
Even though I’m not using archicad much these days (I went back to the dark side), & had developed my own, basic/early stage templates. l’ll definetly check it out. I’m always up for exploring & learning.

Billy, thanks. Hope the dark side is treating you well these days and that you’re keeping busy.

The dark side IS treating me pretty well. Busy enough to keep doing this……for now, anyhow. I’m thankful for that. I’ve got no better ideas. If I did….I’d already be doing it.

I live mostly on the dark side, and hating every moment.

Thank you for sharing this, Jared! Looking forward to picking up some tricks. I have been wanting to revamp our Pen Sets and this will give me a lot to chew on!
Jared Banks
My pleasure. I also have a new pen sets article in the works. I’ll hopefully get that done in the next week or so. But you should be able to figure out everything from the template. I hope. 🙂

“Right about the time I had my template (almost) updated, ArchiCAD 17 came out.”

Btw tnx for sharing:)
Jared Banks
🙂 I’m hoping that this year is when I break that cycle.

Josh (Bone) just introduced me to your website.
I would like to thank you for sharing your thought process in using ArchiCAD
I am currently using ArchiCAD 16 now and plan to upgrade to the next update.
Do you by any chance have a template for the 16 version. I cannot use the 17 th template.
Enjoy your day.

I sort of have an ARCHICAD 16 template you can use/look at. If you go to the template FAQ and scroll down to the middle of the page, there are links to older versions of my template. The AC16 template is my old ARCHICAD 17 template saved down to 16. So it’s not optimized for 16. And I have grown so past it with my more recent templates that it’s not really a good proxy for my ARCHICAD 18 or 19 template. But it is there for the taking. When you upgrade to ARCHICAD 19 (or 20), definitely come back for my newer template. And tell Josh thanks for sharing the site.
