GRAPHISOFT’S ArchiCAD 17 Scores 100% in the COBie Design and Construction Documents Challenge

IFC2x3CertificationLogo_ARCH-E-IBUDAPEST, March 12, 2014 — GRAPHISOFT announced today that it has successfully completed the buildingSMART alliance January 2014 Challenge in the COBie Design and Construction Documents Category.  With zero errors, ArchiCAD 17 fulfilled 100% of the COBie requirements.

In short, ArchiCAD produces COBie data that matches the information found in the equivalent design drawings and schedules.  Based on the quality control report, no format errors were found.  ArchiCAD also correctly exported the data as required by the COBie Challenge.  This means that when users receive a COBie (IFC) file exported from ArchiCAD, they will not have to spend any time correcting it. Support for COBie is important in the US as well as in the UK and all other English-speaking countries.

Prior to this perfect score, in September, 2013, ArchiCAD was the first architectural software to win certification for IFC 2×3 Coordination View version 2.0 import and export.  Based on these two achievements, GRAPHISOFT has again proven that ArchiCAD is fully committed to supporting the Coordination View and Basic FM Handover View (required by COBie) — the two most important IFC standards (so-called Model View Definitions) for OPEN BIM-based data exchange.

  1. You know it’s tough to read the results from COBie, but it does appear that unfortunately, Revit did just as well as ArchiCAD. They at least passed all the tests. But, I can’t find anywhere that says who got 100% or not.

    1. Larry, you’re right. They did score 100% as well (just learned that this morning). But I don’t see that as unfortunate at all. I think it’s great. Both programs should be passing this bar and chasing tougher hurdles, like real world application, etc.

    1. Actually what you are looking at is last year’s test. This year neither ArchiCAD nor Revit had any errors that required correction:

Both have come a long way since last year! Also it’s worth noting that the correction time from 2013 was “penalty time”, so the actual time it would take to fix the errors isn’t really known. Could be 8 hours, 8 minutes, or 0 with a tweaked template. Clearly they figured out the problem!
