Seattle ARCHICAD User Group — December 9th, 2015
We’re heading back to downtown Seattle for our final ARCHICAD user group of the year. Jesse pulled some strings so that we can stay late at Makers! Come join us for some end of the year ARCHICAD discussions and festive downtown Seattle holiday cheer. Here are the details…
Date:
Wednesday December 9, 2015
6:00 PM — 8:00 PM
Location:
MAKERS
92 Lenora St
Seattle, WA 98121
Host:
Jesse Gallanar, GSNA’s sales manager for Washington and Oregon
Topics:
I want to talk about the daily grind. In previous meetings we’ve gotten really esoteric with discussions of IFC, new features, BIG BIM concepts, and other grand topics. There are a few of us that really nerd out to these things and also love focusing on the excessive minutia of ARCHICAD-I can talk endless about keyboard shortcut decisions and how to name Layers. But this month, as we wrap up 2015, let’s get all business. Let’s talk about all the crap we have to do everyday. Let’s talk about how we each do interior elevations and site plans. Let’s talk about where we store code data. Let’s talk about when we revert to 2D or how we model terrain. Let’s talk about nothing flashy. Let’s discuss the ups and downs of being a workhorse. Let’s not hide from when we use BIM but flirt with CAD.
To that end, if you have a project you’d like to share, bring your laptop or a thumb drive (if you bring a thumb drive, save your project as a .PLA so there aren’t missing library parts). I of course will have my machine and models to share (as will Thomas Bormann), but I’d love to get more projects up on the screen. Are you brave enough?
As we always like to do, Jesse, Geoff, and I plan on having an after-party ARCHICAD nerdfest at a nearby bar. Plus Jesse will again be feeding us during the meeting. Back in September he brought an assortment of pizzas and beers. It was great. Please share this post and e-mail it to all your coworkers. I know not everyone gets the official e-mails about user groups-especially new and/or quieter employees.

ARCHICAD job hunters!
If you are in the Seattle area and need work, e-mail me. There are plenty of people who want to talk to you. If you want to move to Seattle and use ARCHICAD, e-mail me as well-especially if you like the freelancer lifestyle. I’ll be honest though, the answer to our need for ARCHICAD help in Seattle (and so many other places) is training new users. The ARCHICAD community is larger now than it has ever been. And it needs to be larger. Not just because a bigger community is more sustainable, but because there’s more work than we can all handle. I don’t know of any firm that uses ARCHICAD that considers themselves overstaffed. It’s time to hire new people and train them on ARCHICAD from the ground up. And as I’ve been saying for months now, if there are enough new users in Seattle that need training, we’ll organize some sort of group event.
