Shoegnome Work Environment for Archicad 24
What’s changed in my Archicad 24 Work Environment?
Not much. This is the first time since I’ve been tracking changes to my Work Environment where there were no new/altered keyboard shortcuts. Similar to the transition from 22 to 23, I reviewed everything in my previous Work Environment and improved it where I could. There are two major changes worth highlighting:
1) This is the first Archicad Work Environment I’ve built for my 16″ Macbook Pro. If you’re on a 15″ Macbook Pro (or other machine with a smaller screen), you’ll have a few buttons of the Attributes Toolbar cut off on the top right of your screen. That’s not the end of the world. The buttons that fall off your screen are the least used of the Attributes Toolbar.
2) I added buttons in the toolbar to reflect the additions of MEP and Structural into the core of Archicad 24. I have no idea if I’ll need or use these features, but I figured it was worth adding them into my Work Environment to encourage me to try.
Even if you’re using my Archicad 23 Work Environment, you need to download and install my Archicad 24 version when switching to Archicad 24. Importing an old WE into a newer release of Archicad will always result in trouble. Your menus will be missing new features and other minor changes might fall through the cracks. Even if your WE is effectively identical version to version, you still should to rebuild it. Or just rely on someone else you trust to rebuild it for you…

Hey Jared – Thanks as always for sharing your insights and perspective on all things Archicad.
Re the standard Toolbars for AC24 USA version, I noticed that Graphisoft left out some stuff from the far right side that had been there for years – things I use ALL the time such as the Renovation palette and QuickLayers palette. They also added in separate MEP and Structural Toolbars that I don’t think I’ll need very often, so I turned them off in my scheme.
Did you notice that Markup Tools are now gone, and are now incorporated into Issue Management, and that Layout Book Issues now are called Transmittal Sets (to avoid confusion with the Issue Management framework). That was a bit of a surprise, although a good one, since Markup Tools had not been touched much since introduced back in AC7.

Thanks Eric. I’m glad Markup Tools have been given some love. Hopefully they’ll be more useful. I have yet to explore them or Transmittal Sets in 24. Replacing the Quick Options Palette with the Quick Options Bar was poor design and the default Work Environment is tragic. I don’t know how anyone works with it. A horizontal Info Box is ridiculous.

Interesting as ever to hear your take on things Jared.
Gotta say from a precursory “kick of the wheels” I found AC24 much slower in 3d and 2d redraw times. I am on a pretty ancient Mac Pro 2013 but still enough of a difference that I’m going to wait for the first update to AC24 and try again before I start making a WE and tweaking Templates.
All the best

That’s interesting to hear. What’s the video card and ram like on that machine? I’ve seen no speed issues on my 16″ 2019 MBP. I wonder if there are enough background subtle changes to Archicad 24 that have pushed your computer over the edge. Seven years is ancient in computer years!
