Shoegnome Open Template v26.21 for Archicad 26
I have a project that’s leaving early schematic design and being rebuilt from scratch. Hopefully this version of the project will be what takes us through permitting and construction. Thus it seemed prudent to fix a couple of minor, but annoying issues with the template. Without further ado: the smallest, most minor update to my template ever—not including micro-fixes that I don’t tell anyone about.
A quick comment about item #3. There are a few times in Archicad when the unchecked override Surface of a Wall matters. For the longest time my Walls defaulted to the wrong Surface. So that’s fixed. It’s nothing earth shattering, but it’ll save me a few seconds here and there. More importantly, having to slowdown and change the Surface on a bunch of walls won’t ruin my flow. And that’s what most of the template changes are these days: tweaks that help me stay focused on design and my clients needs.
Shoegnome Open Template v26.21 changes:
- Favorite (Revised) – Pad Footing – Override Cut Fill Pens, turned off.
- Favorite (Revised) – Pier Block – Override Cut Fill Pens, turned off. Changed ID to be Title Case.
- Favorite (Revised) – Revised Wall favorites to show on Home Story Only, End Surfaces: Override using Adjoining Walls, and set Override Surfaces (unchecked) to 09 | Gypsum Board.
- Surface (Revised) – lightened 04 | Stone – Finish
- Surface (Revised) – lightened 04 | Stone – Finish – Marble
- Building Material (Deleted) – Wood Trim. The template already has Wood Trim (Interior) and Wood Trim (Exterior); it doesn’t need three Wood Trim Building Materials.
- Building Material (Reindexed) – Wood Trim (Exterior) from 96 to 5

If you aren’t using the current version of Archicad, you can download older versions of my template. If you use my template, I highly recommend you use my Work Environment as well. The two work together well and the Work Environment is designed to reinforce the best practices of the template. You can download my Work Environment here.

As a long-time user of Archicad, I find your templates to be really very good and extendable to accommodate (in a systematic way) discrete ranges of manufactured elements and materials for building up Digital Twins of the structure to be built. As the field of architecture inches closer to the full integration of design with manufacturing and precision assembly (off site and on site) these templates will become super-critical aspects of managing that vertical integration.
Thanks for all the efforts you put into these Templates

Thank you Phil. That means so much to me. I really respect all your work and highly value your opinion. What you describe is exactly (one of) my goals with how I develop the template, so it’s validating to see that recognized.
