Changing Course and an Incredible New Album
My daughters and I were driving to Costco on a recent weekend. Since it was a Saturday afternoon I had the radio tuned to MPR (Minnesota Public Radio). I heard an interview with Kacey Musgraves. I guess she’s kind of a big deal right now with a new album, some country music award nominations, and some songs on some show or another (Nashville?). I’d never heard of her. But her story and her music: my goodness was it beautiful. NPR has the whole album streaming for free before the release and I probably listened to it a dozen times.
I couldn’t wait until the Tuesday when Same Trailer Different Park officially came out and I could buy it. I’ve bought some folk and blue-grass type albums before. And one country-rock album, but this is my first official foray into country. And wow. If this is what it’s all like (it’s not), then I’d be hooked.
What are you Talking about Jared?
So this isn’t the first time I’ve talked about music I love on the blog. And it won’t be the last. If I were to apply my six archetypes to musicians, I’d put Kacey Musgraves in the Poet zone. And it reminds me that at some point I need to turn my compass, to head in a new direction. To find that sweet spot of melancholy and beauty that is the realm of the poets. I’d love to find that in architecture, or my writing.
Does this post remind you that I haven’t written the next post in my series that demystifies the various types of Architects? Maybe if you’re reading this post in May, I already have. To be on the safe side follow Shoegnome on Facebook and Twitter so that you don’t miss a post.
