Shoegnome Open Template Updates: 18.12 and 18 ported to 17
Since sharing my latest template I’ve found a few minor corrections. The latest is that “Filter and Cut Elements in 3D” had the cut surface display override checked. I’m not sure why that was the case. I stopped overriding the cut surface display once we got Building Materials in ArchiCAD 17. Anyways that’s fixed. As are a few other things so minor that I can’t even remember.
Perhaps more interesting for users not yet on ArchiCAD 18 is that I’ve done a Save As down to ArchiCAD 17. If you don’t have access to ArchiCAD 18 you can now view my template in ArchiCAD 17. Since I have already spent more time writing this post than I did downgrading the template, there are a few things missing (a couple of Surface images are gone and the Zone Stamps need to be relinked for sure). But if you are really interested in using the template in 17, it won’t be hard to fix them.

- If you have any questions about Filter and Cut Elements in 3D, here’s a blog post I wrote.
- The image above is a screenshot of a couple of quick views from my template (the default scenes for the new CineRender rendering engine are amazing). I originally used that image for a blog post on advice for people interested in learning ArchiCAD.
- Once you start using my awesome template, you’ll probably need to decide how much to model. Here’s two posts to help with that. How much to model: Part 1 and How much to model: Part 2.
- Please, please, please read this post and watch the video on Parameter Transfer. The Shoegnome Open Template is worthless without a firm knowledge of Parameter Transfer.

Thanks! BTW, your comment on some random LinkedIn thread back in January 2013 was super important to this post on the Four BIM Flavors. And that post was the official start of some of the major themes within my writing over the past two years. So a HUGE thank you back to you!
In fact how my understanding of BIM has changed since writing that post is (I hope) very apparent in how my template is structured and evolving. In many ways it’s set up to help us all go from little bim to BIG BIM, and make our work easier, where ever we are on that journey.
