September, October, and November ARCHICAD Events (Seattle and Beyond)

There are a bunch of ARCHICAD events happening this fall. In Seattle, there are two events happening in September:

Seattle Area USER GROUP

September 13th - Weinstein A+U (2200 Western Ave #301 Seattle, WA 98121). For more information and registration, click here. As per usual, I’ll lead a discussion about all things ARCHICAD. We’ll talk about ARCHICAD 22 and 21. We’ll have fun. We’ll go to a bar afterwards and continue the conversation.

ARCHICAD for Cost Estimating – 2-Day Workshop

September 5th & 6th – John Hallgarth of ContraBIM is stopping by for a two day workshop on using ARCHICAD for cost estimating. For more information and registration, click here. If you’re not in Seattle and are interested in this, check John’s website. I believe his plan is to offer this workshop in a few locations over the coming months.

If you’re not in Seattle, or you are looking for an excuse to get away from Seattle, there are two other great events coming up soon:

ARCHICAD Summer School (ARCHICAD Users Association)

September 26th – 28th – ACUA’s ARCHICAD Summer School is in Lisbon this year. For more information and registration, click here. I’ve yet to make it over to Europe for one of ACUA’s events, but if you’ve been reading the blog long enough you know I think this is a wonderful group and their events always look bonkers awesome. One day I’ll make it. Maybe this is the year you do.

ARCHICAD by the Beach

October 28th – November 4th – Link Ellis and Chris Clark of BIM6x are putting on what will definitely be the premiere ARCHICAD event of 2018. Join them in Cabo San Lucas for a week of insanely amazing adventures and ARCHICAD learning. There’s not much time left, register now. Link and Chris are sparing no expense to make this an amazing event. I don’t mean to come across as hyperbolic, but their list of trainers is insane. You know of my love for everything Onland.info. James Murray is one of my ARCHICAD idols and just a wonderful human being. He’ll be at ARCHICAD by the Beach sharing his knowledge of GDL. This is a pretty damn special opportunity. James doesn’t typically do this sort of thing. Who knows if he’ll do it again. But I do know he’ll be in Cabo for a week to share his GDL wisdom. I could go on. Eugenio Fontan of Enzyme will be there. For a few years now, I’ve been enjoying the ARCHICAD content Enzyme produces and lamenting that once upon a time this blog was moving down a similar path of trailblazing ARCHICAD creativity. I’m still heading in that direction, but just at a much slower, quieter pace than I once did… Marta, Akos, and Monte from GRAPHISOFT will be sharing their wisdom. Link will be speaking. Link knows his shit. You should be listening to Link whenever you get a chance. Seriously this is a powerhouse group of trainers and speakers.

Okay. That’s all for now. Back to my Seattle user group and boilerplate:

ARCHICAD job hunters!

If you are in the Seattle area and need work, e-mail me. There are plenty of people who want to talk to you. If you want to move to Seattle and use ARCHICAD, e-mail me as well-especially if you like the freelancer lifestyle. If you are an ARCHICAD firm in need of help, definitely e-mail me. I am always hearing from people looking for work, so if I don’t have someone for you today, I bet someone will be reaching out to me tomorrow. I can’t promise I’ll find you a job, freelancer, or employee, but I’ll try. As always though, the answer to our need for ARCHICAD help in Seattle (and so many other places) is training new users. The ARCHICAD community is larger now than it has ever been. And it needs to be larger. Not just because a bigger community is more sustainable, but because there’s more work than we can all handle. I don’t know of any firm that uses ARCHICAD that considers themselves overstaffed. It’s time to hire new people and train them on ARCHICAD from the ground up.

Seattle Area ARCHICAD User Mailing List

I maintain a list for ARCHICAD users in the Seattle Area (or people interested in Seattle Area ARCHICAD events). If that describes you, sign up by clicking here.

Subscribe to my blog to read more about the tricky world of being an Architect in the 21st century, and more info on various ARCHICAD meet-ups across the globe: Shoegnome on FacebookTwitter, and the RSS feed. If you aren’t in Seattle, don’t worry. There are a lot of other user groups coming up. Check out a big list here for all the events GRAPHISOFT North America knows about.

We have reviewed the venue, pricing, and schedule of events for the ARCHICAD by the Beach in Los Cabos. This is an outstanding value! How do we know? We have a vacation membership on the beach (Fiesta Americana) about 5-10 minutes away. These hotel rooms go for around $500 per night. With the all inclusive rate that BIM6x has arranged, this is a great value. (Not to mention Jared’s review of the AC training above).
