In August 2009, AIA Minnesota ran a program focusing on the use of BIM in residential projects, and by extension, for small firms. Three years later they are revisiting the topic and broaden the view to include how firms of various sizes are using Building Information Modeling on both small commercial and residential projects. If you remember your Shoegnome Lore, I was one of the panelists for that program back in 2009. And it was that opportunity that spawned everything since. So it feels a bit like a homecoming that we’re now doing a follow up to that program, and I’m once again speaking at it. Here’s some more information from the official description of the program:

Rachel Riopel Wiley, AIA, LEED AP (HDR) and Jared Banks, AIA (Shoegnome) will share how BIM integrates into their daily work. They will discuss how BIM enhances their practice and improves their projects, specifically with regards to small projects. What are the benefits to the owner, contractor, consultants, and most importantly the design team? What are some of the pitfalls and dangers of using BIM on small projects? How can small firms manage the transition to BIM? These two architects will reflect on where we have been, where we are now, and what trends they see effecting the relationship between small firms, small projects, and BIM. Plenty of time will be reserved at the end of the presentation for discussion between the two speakers and the audience. So bring your questions!

Attend this program and cut through the hype about BIM. Learn how to make an informed choice about whether your practice is ready for BIM. Discover what steps are needed to prepare for what is fast becoming an inevitability, not just an option.
