Some Early December Ramblings

One of the promises of BIM is to help us architects spend more time designing and less time documenting. The lion-share of our fees are typically on construction documentation. Wouldn’t it be more fun if we spent 80% of our time designing instead? That’s what BIM promises. Material take offs, energy modeling, facilities management are all great. But if we can keep refining our designs until we have a solution we’re very happy with and already have the documentation nearly done… I want that. ArchiCAD does that. Well, users in ArchiCAD do that. The “create building” tool is still in alpha testing. I hear it will be ready for version 17.
